Status Of Women Rights In Islam

09:28

Women's status in Islam is one of the most controversial topics about which peoples have different opinions. It's not about the whole Muslim community but in some parts, women are not free like their counterpart and they use women as an object. In fact, many men pride themselves only when their foot is firmly placed on their women's necks. Due to these kinds of indecent behavior of a few Muslims, people across the globe use to hate from Muslim community. As far as religious beliefs are concerned, it's clearly evident in The Quran that men and women have equal right; there is no superiority in the spiritual sense, both have the same spirit.

There are many parts in the world where women are considered as sex objects by their counterparts. In India, Muslim fundamentalist have demanded that all women start wearing veils. And the women who were not wear veil, they used to throw acid in the faces of uncovered women. In many African countries, Indonesia, Malaysia, Middle East along with some ethnic groups in Australia, North America and Europe, Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is practiced by Muslim males as they believe that Islam mandates FGM to ensure that their daughters will remain chaste until marriage. Thus, Islam's psychotic obsession with women chastity, virginity and modesty has rendered Muslim men incapable of viewing women as equal and worthy companions.

These kinds of differences have been common for men as well as women in Islam for many years in many parts across the globe. If we glance on the history of Islamic women, The Prophet Mohammad was a feminist. He worked to improve the status of women in 7th Century Arabia. At that time, women had been treated as possessions of their husbands. Islamic law made by The Prophet, ensured the education of girls a sacred duty and gave women the right to own and inherit property.

Mohammad even decreed that sexual satisfaction was a woman's entitlement. Although, parts of the problem arise due to Mohammad even as they proclaimed new rights for women, they enshrined their inequality in immutable law, passed down as Allah's commandants and eventually recorded in scripture. The Koran also allots only half of inherited properties to daughters while son has double property than the daughter. It decreases women status in the court as far as financial matters are concerned because women's worth is half that of men. Sharia or Muslim law also favors men at many instances.
